6/8 update:  Things change.  Sam and Teddy are available for adoption.

How I ended up with puppies:

I definitely had not planned on becoming a puppy 'grandmother.' Callie, the puppies' mom, used to live with friends of my family.  After 5 years living with them, she had learned that she could penetrate their invisible (buried wire) fence and make visits to their neighbors.  Standard fencing was impractical on their large property so they started looking for a new home for Callie.  I adopted Callie in mid-March, I found out she was pregnant on April 14th and she gave birth to 6 puppies on April 18th.

Facts about all 6 puppies:

  • They were born on 4/18/2023.
  • All have white chests and 1-4 white paws.
  • All have tails.
  • All enjoy being picked up, held, and petted.
  • They've been individually DNA tested (Testing by Embark).  Links to individual puppies' DNA results appear later in this post) .  Results for all littermates fall within the ranges listed below:
    • 53-64% Australian shepherd dog,
    • 13-19% collie,
    •  0 - 7% German Shepherd,
    •  0-5% border collie,
    • 0-8% Labrador retriever, and
    • 12-21% supermutt (with probable minor breed contributions varying but including border collie, Australian cattle dog, American Eskimo dog, Labrador retriever, rat terrier, and beagle )
  • They're making good progress on their puppy pad training. I started their training using puppy pads only. I have since transitioned them to dog litter on top of puppy pads along with frequent outdoor pottying.
  • They'll get their first puppy vaccines on June 19th.
  • Puppies are free to folks I know or those referred to me by people I know, my workplace, church, etc.

The 4 puppies that are still available for adoption are shown below (Don't worry I expect adoptive families to change the puppies' names) :

Teddy and Tuppence

(6/4 update.  Tuppence may has an adoptive mom.)

Teddy's and Tuppence's eyes seem to be turning brown.
Tuppence's DNA (6/7 update.  Tuppence has an adoptive mom.)

Sam and Henry

6/8 update- Henry has an adoptive mom.  Sam is available for adoption.

Sam's and Henry's eyes are still blue at 6 weeks-old.  It's possible that they will remain blue.
Henry's DNA (6/8 update- Henry has an adoptive mom.)
